Saturday has been cancelled!

1Ryan Clayton30th Sep 2007Stupid People

I have an update regarding my post about Saturday being part of the weekend…it seems that Saturday has been cancel. From the evidence I’ve collected below, some people will be skipping Saturday all together and going directly to Sunday. Other’s will observe Friday twice.

This post is moot….

2Ryan Clayton28th Sep 2007Stupid People

Ok…if you keep reading this site enough, you’ll realize that I think a lot of people are just stupid.  There seem to be a lot of stupid out there.

Today is another example.  I was talking to a gentleman on the phone who sounded like a Jeff Foxworthy character.  He was having problems hearing me so he said “Hang on, let me put the TV on moot.”

Now I’ve got a Mute button on my TV and it makes the sound go silent, it’s pretty handy.  But a Moot button…so everything that comes out of the TV is irrelevant?  That’s just cool.  Reminds me of a George Carlin joke about a light bulb that only shines on things worth looking at.

Are you reading this Sony, I want my TV retrofitted with a Moot button (which obviously would be useless on America’s Next Top Model).

This post is a little risque….

At work today we’ve run into a vanity countertop that needs to be replaced due to customer abuse…the current top was destroyed. We are trying to save the customer as much money as possible, so we are going to try to reuse the sink. I was discussing this with some of the shop guys to make sure I wasn’t promising something we couldn’t deliver on.

Me: So can we pull the sink out and reuse it in the new top?
T: Well you can, but it would be risque.

Yes, he said risque…intead of risky. I really don’t know what he was thinking. Was he trying to be all smooth and throw a French word in to sound smart? Like when people order a cheese burger ‘sans’ cheese. I know, that’s a hamburger! I’m just making a point.

Pornographers & A New Gallery

2Ryan Clayton25th Sep 2007Colorado, Food, Music

I only recently discovered The New Pornographers but when the chance came to go see them in concert I couldn’t pass it up. That’s why I’m posting past 2am on a Monday night. I went up to Boulder and saw a great band, ate at one of my favorite restaurants, The Sink, and had a great, yet late, evening.

I guess I’m still on that high from seeing the band in person. I can still hear the music in my head. I listened to them on the way home but it felt flat, it didn’t make my bones shake like it did live. And to think, I’ve always considered myself to not really be a concert person, but I had such a great time I’m looking forward to my next. To keep track of these events, be them movies, concerts, theater….I’m going to take the approach a friend of mine does. But instead of a wallet full of stubs, I’m setting up the events gallery, and I’m going to scan my ticket stubs and then post them here. Thanks for the inspiration Wiggles!

I will quit smoking…

6Ryan Clayton24th Sep 2007Smoking

I’ve tried and failed, but I refuse to give up. I don’t like being a smoker. I don’t like stinking like an ashtray. I don’t like having to be alone outside smoking. I don’t like the taste. I don’t like the cough. I don’t like spending money to do something that could kill me, I’m basically paying someone to kill me. I don’t want to be a slave to nicotine. I don’t want to be stupid anymore.

Is Saturday part of the weekend?

1Ryan Clayton17th Sep 2007Stupid People

I’m driving home from a friends house this weekend and a commercial comes on the radio for a local dental office.  It talked about the usual stuff you’d expect from a commercial. It then gives the location and the hours.

“Open weekends…and Saturday!”

I’m not kidding, who the hell approved that commercial?  When did Saturday get kicked out of the weekend spot?  Do I have to start working on Saturdays now?  Is the weekend now only Sunday?  I’m so confused.

I’m actually considering calling them and asking if they are open on the weekend.  When they say yes I’ll ask, “What about Saturday?”

Ah, hot tubbin’

0Ryan Clayton15th Sep 2007Colorado, Music

It was another cool day and it’s currently 45 degrees…so I fired up the hot tub for the first time since summer interrupted an otherwise perfect year. Fortunately, it’s on the way out, and rather fast. I always seem to notice how abrupt the seasons change here in Colorado. Just last week it was hot and all of a sudden I’m wearing a sweatshirt, soaking in the hot tub and sleeping with the electric blanket turned on.

This evening, I sat in the hot tub, freshly filled so the water didn’t smell like chemicals, listened to The Crane Wife by The Decemberist and warmed my slightly chilled bones. I can’t wait to do that again after I’ve been boarding all day. See ya summer!

Funny thought for the day…

A friend just sent this to me and I thought it was pretty funny….hadn’t seen it before.

SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES,
NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY
BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED
DOWN THE STAIRS.

It feels like fall…

1Ryan Clayton13th Sep 2007General

I’m driving to work this morning and it’s cool outside, there is this breeze blowing and it just feels like a fall morning.  I love it!  Summer wasn’t bad, but I prefer cooler weather…and fall just means snow is coming.

Is it too early to tune up my snowboard?

Is it 3:30 yet?

I’m so ready to leave work today. I’ve got a flight at 7:40 to Los Angeles to see family for a long weekend.

So I’m working on my ‘on the plane’ playlist. So far I’ve got:

Leaving on a Jet Plane – Chantal Kreviazuk
Going Back To Cali – LL Cool J (thanks Chel)
Under The Bridge – Red Hot Chili Peppers
Los Angeles, I’m Yours – The Decemberists
Coming In Los Angeles – Arlo Guthrie
California Dreaming – The Mommas & The Papas
Californication – Red Hot Chili Peppers
California Rain – Madeleine Peyroux
Hotel California – The Eagles
Going to California -Led Zepplin
Leaving Las Vegas – Sheryl Crow (cause I’ve got a layover in Vegas)
All I Wanna Do – Sheryl Crow
O’ Valencia! – The Decemberists
I Predict a Riot – Kaiser Cheifs (come on, it’s LA!)
Race Car Ya Yas! – Cake (same reason)

Anyone have any other Los Angeles or California related music I should add?
