A week of great music

Flight of the Conchords
This weekend I had the pleasure of going to Red Rocks Amphitheater again…this time to see Flight of the Conchords. They are a musical comedy group with some great music that will crack you up! I’ve been a fan for about a year now after seeing an episode of their show on HBO…but it turns out I became a fan just after they performed here in Colorado.

I finally got to see them this time around and it was amazing. Not only did I get to see Flight of the Conchords but there was a nice surprise with the opening act. Iron & Wine. I didn’t even know he was opening…but when I saw him walk out…I knew!

Then tonight Meiko is playing in Denver. I’ve posted about Meiko before because I love her music and if I could figure out how, I’d have her babies. I think from now on I will pronounce her name Mmmmmm-Meiko.

I’ve included a few videos from these artists below, but if you want to hear more music from them, check out the Music page.

I am the King of Prince

So I was listening to my iPod on random today and a Prince song came on. I then decided to just listen to Prince so I queued up all my Prince songs to play.

I want honest answers here….are 190 Prince songs too much for one guy to have on his iPod?

Death Cab for Cutie

Last Wednesday night I drove up to Red Rocks Amphitheatre to see Death Cab for Cutie with Annika. Wow! I had never been to Red Rocks before and it’s amazing. I took a few photos and yes the place looks cool….but once the sun sets and the rocks are all lit up…it just feels unreal. But that’s the really cool part…it’s totally real…nature’s design!

Red Rocks

0528081948a.jpgI had no idea who the opening band was. After listening to them for awhile I decided I liked them and asked who they were. They are called Rogue Wave and to my surprise I actually have a couple of their albums. It was recommended to me by someone and I just haven’t had time to really listen to it.

0528081948b.jpgAfter I discovering the band I had already discovered, it was time for Death Cab for Cutie. They played a lot from their new album, which I’m sad to say I had only listened to a couple of times. But they did do some older stuff like “I Will Follow You Into The Dark” and “Title and Registration”.

My first visit to Red Rocks and I’m dying to go back. I’m not sure why it took me 4 years of being in Colorado to get there. But I think I’m going to make it a habit….

Pornographers & A New Gallery

I only recently discovered The New Pornographers but when the chance came to go see them in concert I couldn’t pass it up. That’s why I’m posting past 2am on a Monday night. I went up to Boulder and saw a great band, ate at one of my favorite restaurants, The Sink, and had a great, yet late, evening.

I guess I’m still on that high from seeing the band in person. I can still hear the music in my head. I listened to them on the way home but it felt flat, it didn’t make my bones shake like it did live. And to think, I’ve always considered myself to not really be a concert person, but I had such a great time I’m looking forward to my next. To keep track of these events, be them movies, concerts, theater….I’m going to take the approach a friend of mine does. But instead of a wallet full of stubs, I’m setting up the events gallery, and I’m going to scan my ticket stubs and then post them here. Thanks for the inspiration Wiggles!

Ah, hot tubbin’

It was another cool day and it’s currently 45 degrees…so I fired up the hot tub for the first time since summer interrupted an otherwise perfect year. Fortunately, it’s on the way out, and rather fast. I always seem to notice how abrupt the seasons change here in Colorado. Just last week it was hot and all of a sudden I’m wearing a sweatshirt, soaking in the hot tub and sleeping with the electric blanket turned on.

This evening, I sat in the hot tub, freshly filled so the water didn’t smell like chemicals, listened to The Crane Wife by The Decemberist and warmed my slightly chilled bones. I can’t wait to do that again after I’ve been boarding all day. See ya summer!

Is it 3:30 yet?

I’m so ready to leave work today. I’ve got a flight at 7:40 to Los Angeles to see family for a long weekend.

So I’m working on my ‘on the plane’ playlist. So far I’ve got:

Leaving on a Jet Plane – Chantal Kreviazuk
Going Back To Cali – LL Cool J (thanks Chel)
Under The Bridge – Red Hot Chili Peppers
Los Angeles, I’m Yours – The Decemberists
Coming In Los Angeles – Arlo Guthrie
California Dreaming – The Mommas & The Papas
Californication – Red Hot Chili Peppers
California Rain – Madeleine Peyroux
Hotel California – The Eagles
Going to California -Led Zepplin
Leaving Las Vegas – Sheryl Crow (cause I’ve got a layover in Vegas)
All I Wanna Do – Sheryl Crow
O’ Valencia! – The Decemberists
I Predict a Riot – Kaiser Cheifs (come on, it’s LA!)
Race Car Ya Yas! – Cake (same reason)

Anyone have any other Los Angeles or California related music I should add?
